The practice of reading is advantageous in ways that might be difficult to completely articulate in words, but in order to reach the best possible level of articulation, reading is a tool from God in heaven. Reading is an activity that places the reader in places and positions that otherwise might be impossible.

Identifying the best-read person in a room full of people is usually a walk in the park. They appear confident, they seem to have the divine gift of knowledge, and if given a chance, they can speak with a certain level of authority on subjects that elude the rest of us.

The associated adverse effects are of significant concern, and among them, in particular, are their brain-numbing effects. Active reading is an immensely useful tool to reverse those effects and erect strong defenses against them, settling in and inflicting our children in the first place.

Technology has made serious in-roads to transform paperbacks as we know them. E-books and audiobooks from platforms like Audible have gained traction. This should provide some relief to struggling teachers and allow others to get creative with the ways classroom reading exercises are conducted.

While dealing with students, the Sticks and Carrots approach should be followed in a balance, tailored for each child. Nobody ever said teaching children was supposed to be an easy job. The teachers need to promote reading as a tool of everyday life and not one that explicitly reinforces the pursuit of educational and curriculum targets.

A book is usually a work of heavy research, and the author dedicates a considerable portion of his life. Books are home to a treasure trove of knowledge that people of all age groups can benefit from. Reading exercises should break the monotony of a traditional classroom environment and the generation-old homework approach and not pit one pupil against another. Instead, they should be planned around promoting healthy discussions that are centered around lessons, messages, events, and lives that the students studied in their books. The selection of books should be left only on the children. This would signal a shift away from rigid school syllabus structures to a more relaxed learning style.

This will aid youngsters in finding their interests and inclinations early on in life. It will teach them that no two humans are the same, and we are all supposed to tread on our own distinct paths in life. This will strengthen their identity and make them strong against the parental, individual, and societal urge to compare themselves to their reference groups. If their selection of book(s) falls short of holding their attention and interest and does not suit them entirely once they start reading, they will have to finish them. This will leave valuable lessons with them on the significance of making the correct decisions and right choices.
